Energy Therapy
How Does Energy Therapy Work?
The most common complaint of energy therapy patients is anxiety. Symptoms of anxiety can be mild, such as a slightly elevated pulse in social situations, or severe, resulting in the inability to leave the house or engage in any type of social interaction. Depression can also be symptomatic of energy disruption, as can many other mood disorders; when one's energetic equilibrium is upset, mood disorders are usually observed.
Energy Psychology does not delve into the physical symptoms of energy blockages unless these symptoms are perceived to be psychosomatic. Instead, as its name suggests, Energy Psychology emphasizes the behavioral and emotional symptoms of energy disturbances. Some studies have found these particular techniques to be useful in helping symptoms of trauma and anxiety, such as those experienced by survivors of the genocide.
In energy therapy sessions, patients are encouraged to explore the symptoms of their disorder or complaint imaginatively, and identify any places in the body stimulated or affected by the recollection of trauma, pain, or discomfort. From there, patients focus on a specific event or experience as they administer pressure or tapping to the body's meridians. This is the basic process of energy therapies.
Acupressure
Acupressure is a subtype of acupuncture, relying on deep pressure rather than an actual puncture to move and manipulate energy. Acupressure is also useful for individuals who might experience an intense fear of needles which are unable to engage in healing through acupuncture. Acupressure points are the same as acupuncture points, and the treatment may be self-administered.
